Winemaker Saturdays 05 — Martin Muthenthaler

  • Newcomer Wines Dalston 5 Dalston Lane London, England, E8 3DF United Kingdom (map)

Known for its rolling hills, long storied history (Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned here) and fortresses, the Wachau is also one of Austria's most established and notable wine regions.

Located west of Vienna in Lower Austria along the Danube, Europe's second longest river, the Wachau is perhaps one of the most spectacular winemaking regions in the world – it was inducted into the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000.

Martin Muthenthaler, a former truck driver for the biggest winery in Wachau, is quietly leading a renaissance of the region. By employing organic and sustainable farming methods and working the steep vineyards on his own, Martin is taking classic Wachau Riesling and Grüner Veltliner to new (and contemporary) heights.

2-5pm, Saturday 29 June
